Datenschutzerklärung

Stand: 8. November 2026

  • Keepwatch funktioniert ohne Konto.

Folgende Dienstleister verarbeiten Daten in unserem Auftrag (Art. 28 DSGVO):

  • Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr.

Schreib uns dafür an [email protected].

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 November 2026

  • Keepwatch works without an account. Without one, your village data stays on your device.
  • An account is optional and only used to keep your villages in sync across your devices.
  • No ads, no advertising or tracking cookies. Only anonymous crash reports to our own server and usage statistics without names, tags or email address (in the EU only with your consent). On this website, visitor statistics without cookies, in the EU also only with your consent.
  • You can delete your account in the app at any time. Your data on the server is then gone immediately.

1. Controller

Email: [email protected]

Keepwatch is a private, free fan project. No data protection officer has been appointed, as none is required by law.

2. Data on your device

When you paste a village export from Clash of Clans, the app stores it in a local database on your device, together with your settings (e.g. Gold Pass, helpers), your build plan, manual changes and your import history. This data only leaves your device if you sign in (see section 4).

Notifications about finished upgrades are scheduled locally on your device. There is no push server, and no device identifier is sent to us. You can turn notifications off in the app or in your system settings at any time.

3. Game data downloads and server logs

To keep times and costs accurate, the app downloads game data, translations, event information and images from our server api.keepwatch.gg (older app versions: api.keepwatch.dev). When it does, and when you visit this website, the server processes technically necessary data:

  • IP address
  • date and time, requested address, status code, amount of data transferred
  • app or browser details (user agent) and app version

We use this data only to run the service, find errors and prevent abuse (for example by limiting requests per IP address). The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure, working service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Logs are deleted after 14 days at the latest.

Crash reports

If the app crashes or hits an error, it sends an error report to our self-hosted error server (Sentry, open-source software, on our own server sentry2.valking.gg). The report contains the error message, the location in the program code, app version, operating system and device model, and the time. It contains no email address, no village data and no advertising or device identifier. Your IP address is processed to transmit the report but is not stored. No data goes to the company Sentry or any other third party.

We use these reports only to find and fix bugs (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). They are deleted after 90 days at the latest.

Usage statistics

In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland the app asks you once whether it may count which features you use. Only if you agree does it send usage events to our self-hosted analytics software (PostHog, open-source software, on our own server at Hetzner in Germany, received via i.valking.gg). Without your consent the app sends none of this. In all other countries usage statistics are on without asking, and you can turn them off at any time in Settings. The app decides which group applies on your device only, from the region and time zone in your device settings; if unclear, it asks.

An event contains what happened (for example village imported, upgrade planned, synced, village switched, notifications allowed, screen viewed, app opened), numbers about it (for example Town Hall level, number of villages, plan length, game IDs of buildings), app version, operating system, device model, language, time zone and the time. It also contains a random identifier stored on your device. If you are signed in, we use your account's internal number instead, so your devices count as one user. Events contain no email address, no player or clan tags, no village names and none of your export's contents. On receipt, your approximate location (country, state or region, city) is derived from your IP address; more precise details such as postal code or coordinates are discarded, and the IP address itself is not stored. There is no screen recording and no advertising identifier.

In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland the legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG); elsewhere it is our legitimate interest in improving the app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can withdraw consent or object at any time in the app under Settings → Usage statistics. The app then stops sending and deletes the identifier on your device. Events are deleted after 6 months at the latest, earlier on request. No data goes to the company PostHog or any other third party; Cloudflare only passes the events through (see section 6).

4. Account and sync (optional)

If you sign in, we process:

  • Email address: to sign you in. You receive a one-time code by email; there is no password.
  • Session: a sign-in token on your device, and on the server the IP address and device details (user agent) of the sign-in. A session is valid for 60 days at most.
  • Village data: player tag, the latest 5 exports per village (game state such as building and hero levels and running upgrades), your settings, build plan and manual changes, and your import history.

The purpose is to sync your villages across your devices and to restore them on a new device. The legal basis is the performance of our terms of use (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). The server automatically deletes exports older than the latest 5. Everything else is kept until you delete your account.

Abuse protection for sign-in

To stop anyone from sending sign-in codes in bulk, we store a hash (a one-way checksum) of the email address and of the IP address, with the time, for every code sent. These entries are deleted after 2 days (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

5. Deleting your account

You can delete your account in the app under Settings → Delete account. We email you a code to confirm. Your account, your sessions and all synced village data are then deleted from the server immediately. Data on your device stays until you delete the app.

For resilience we back up the database once a day. Backups are overwritten after 14 days, so deleted data may remain in a backup until then. It is not restored from there except to recover from an outage.

6. Recipients and processors

We do not sell data or share it for advertising. The following providers process data on our behalf (Art. 28 GDPR):

  • Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany: servers, database and backups in data centres in Germany.
  • Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA: all requests to the app API, to our analytics endpoint (only when usage statistics are on) and to this website pass through Cloudflare (attack protection, delivery). Your IP address is processed, including in the USA. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; EU Standard Contractual Clauses also apply.
  • Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL, 38 Avenue John F. Kennedy, L-1855 Luxembourg: sending sign-in codes by email (Amazon SES, Frankfurt region). AWS receives your email address and the content of the email. A transfer to the USA cannot be ruled out; AWS is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Supercell receives no data from us, and Keepwatch does not request any data about you from Supercell.

7. This website

The wiki pages of keepwatch.gg set no cookies, and the whole site loads no external fonts or third-party scripts. Only when you sign in at keepwatch.gg/app does the site set two strictly necessary cookies: the sign-in cookie (readable only by the server) and kw_in, which holds only the first letter of your account so the wiki pages can show that you are signed in. Both go away when you sign out (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). Besides the server logs from section 3, we use visitor statistics with the same self-hosted PostHog installation as the app (section 3, "Usage statistics"). The statistics script is served from keepwatch.gg itself; events go to i.valking.gg.

In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland the site only loads the statistics after you choose "Allow" in the notice at the bottom of the page. In all other countries they are on without asking, and you can turn them off via "Statistics" in the page footer. Which group applies is decided by your browser alone, based on its time zone; if it is unknown, you are asked. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, statistics stay off until you allow them yourself. When you open these pages from inside the app, no website statistics run.

We record the page viewed (without URL parameters except the language and campaign tags such as utm_source; ad click IDs are discarded), the domain of the site you came from, clicks on the store buttons and on the "Wiki | My village" switch, that you open a search result (only whether it leads to the wiki or to My village and how many hits there were, never your search words), browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language, time zone and time. A random identifier is kept in your browser's local storage (localStorage, not a cookie) so that repeat visits count as one visitor. On receipt, the approximate location (country, state or region, city) is derived from the IP address; anything more precise is discarded, and the IP address itself is not stored. There is no screen recording and no recording of other clicks or input.

My village in the browser (keepwatch.gg/app) uses the same statistics and the same choice. There we also count which features you use, as in the app (section 3): numbers, levels and game IDs, never village tags, names or email addresses. If you sign in there, we link this browser's statistics to the internal ID of your account (never to your email address), so that app and browser count as one person. From then on this also applies to the wiki pages in this browser. After you sign out, the browser gets a new random identifier.

In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland the legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG); elsewhere it is our legitimate interest in improving the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can withdraw consent or object at any time via "Statistics" in the page footer. The site then stops sending and deletes the identifier from your browser. Your choice itself is stored only in your browser. Events are deleted after 6 months at the latest.

8. Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). Where we rely on legitimate interests, you may object at any time (Art. 21). Write to [email protected].

You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the one where you live.

9. Changes

If the app or the law changes, we update this policy. The version published here applies.
